Weekly market
In every bigger city there is a weekly market, which is called "pazar" in Turkish. In big cities even every
district has is own market.
Our tip: Ask somebody, everybody in the
city knows the market day and can explain you how to find the market. A visit
it’s worth it in every case. Only the lively, colorful, mediteranean
atmosphere is breathtaking. A big range of goods which is very fresh and cheap
is waiting for you.
In Turkey nearly all types of fruits and vegetables are cultivated, and the
markets show this riches. From the nicest peaches to mature pomegranates and
big melons up to blue figs and fresh
hazelnuts you can find everything what your heart desires. To say nothing of
vegetables – just visit the market and convince yourself.
The yellow honey – dew melons are particularly recommendable!
You can also find cheese stalls,
all types of olives, eggs, honey, ... nearly everything. If you live in a
holiday flat and you have to cook for yourself, the market is of course very
interesting for you. You could also buy the fresh food stuffs in the super
market but the quality and the prices there are more worse and you could
almost compare them with the green fruits and vegetables which you can find
in German supermarkets. The supermarket has to buy his goods from the
wholesale trader and this has of course consequences on the freshness of the
fruits and vegetables.
The weekly markets have also Non-Food products, useful and less useful
souvenirs, clothes, tablecloths.

Just a little tip for you: Pay attention to the small change. The small change for tourists
is often wrong calculated as they don’t know very well the national currency...
Please have also a look to your purse as there are many pickpockets on the markets.
Tap water
In any case, don’t drink tap water!! It could be that you will get
diarrhea very quickly. You can use the tap water for brushing your teeth. Mineral Water without carbonic
acid in bottles is offered everywhere and is very cheap.
